Accomplishments:
- Continued to take the lead role in the Downtown Dubuque Masterplan implementation, resulting in numerous advances in fiscal 2007, and the completion of the first several objectives.
- Expanded the Main Street districts to include the Warehouse/Millworking District, extending services and influences to the crucial, formerly industrial, east edge of the traditional downtown, as called for in Envision 2010.
- In alliance with the new Business Accelerator, encouraged and financed the build-out for the first tenant in the entrepreneurial neighborhood facility within Dubuque’s central business district.
- Completed the quantitative research project on the economic impact of art events in our city center.
- Secured and utilized a grant to complete the Historic Old Main streetscape and other public improvements project.
- Introduced a new and successful week-long, design-centered educational celebration, Architecture Days.
- Improved information resources, with an upgrade of the DMS Website, including, up-to-date calendars, an on-line newsletter, our availability list, as well as a more comprehensive rehabilitation packet, detailing a wider variety of assistance programs.
- Awarded 13 downtown Dubuque projects with special honors, and parlayed these awards into further state and national development & preservation awards.
- Became the only Main Street Iowa community to obtain a fourth consecutive Challenge Grant award, securing funds for yet a Warehouse/Entrepreneurial Neighborhood restoration project.
- Secured and implemented grant funding for building rehabilitation, streetscape improvement, collateral material, equipment, an intern for economic development work, a festival tent, Architecture Days activities, and downtown cleanup.
- Expanded assistance in organization and equipment availability for Taste of Dubuque; Dubuquefest; Riverfest; the Cable Car Square Chili Cook-off & Candle Walk; America’s River Festival; Dubuque365.com Lunchtime Jams; Summerfest; Bluesfest; Summer’s True Kickoff; the Rock & Soul Reunion, Fourth of July Fireworks & Social, the Prescott School Summer Percussion Program Concert, and other downtown parades & events, while continuing the momentum of Main Street’s own Dubuque...and All That Jazz!, Puttzin’ Around Downtown, Farmers’ Market, and Discover Downtown Dubuque Days.
- Worked with the City and other entities with representation on the following committees: The City’s Economic Development Team, Downtown MasterPlan Oversight Committee, Enterprise Zone Commission, GDDC’s Economic Development Coordination Group; Warehouse District Planning Committees; City’s United Development Code & Bluff-land Advisory Task Forces, Prescott Charter School Advisory Committee; Old Main Streetscape Planning Taskforce; Parking Advisory /Review Committees, Historic Preservation Commission; America’s River Board & Marketing Committee; the CVB’s Advisory Board & Festivals Committee; the Iowa Great Places Application & Implementation Committee, the Downtown Pedestrian Way-finding Task Force, Port of Dubuque Parking Facility Committee, Carnegie-Stout Library Capital Campaign “Case” Task Force, the Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council Community Advisors; the Dubuque Cultural Alliance, and more.
