CD Review by
365ink's Mike Ironside

I’m either the perfect guy to review this CD or the worst.

As a former festival guy for downtown development not-for-profit Dubuque Main Street, I had the pleasure of working with nearly all of the bands on this compilation CD. Not only have I taken the time at the event to actually listen to them (in between checking on the vendors’ power needs and doing a quick quality control assessment of the Jaycees products), I have also heard their recordings. These guys are good. I already know that. You probably know that too. You don’t get to play All That Jazz until your band is really, really good. So you think your gonna get an “objective” reviews.

But here’s the thing: upon listening, it really is a good CD. It’s got great original songs by all the big favorites and a few by some bands that should probably make another appearance some time. If you like the festival, buy the CD, pick up some Bud Light, some Amber Bock and invite seven or eight-thousand of your closest friends over. Oh, and pick up some Sugar Rays. I’ll meet you by the dance floor.

Dubuque's Summer Farmers' Market

Iowa's oldest open-air market features a wide variety of vendors selling homegrown and handcrafted items including arts and crafts, fresh-cut flowers, breads and baked goods, and fresh produce throughout the season. Early season favorites include fresh asparagus, radishes, rhubarb, spinach, lilacs, tulips, daffodils, garden seedlings and bedding plants.

Farmers' Market is open every Saturday morning, 7 a.m. to noon, from May 1st through October 31st. Stretching from the area around City Hall at Iowa and 13th Streets down Iowa Street to 11th Street, the market has grown in recent years to over 70 vendors. (Those interested in becoming market vendors should call the Main Street office as vendor spaces are still available.(563)588-4400).

Continuing the safety measures begun last year, a portion of Iowa Street will be closed each Saturday to create a safer, more pedestrian friendly market. The market will feature entertainment and special events on select Saturdays throughout the season.
